Life’s Mosaic… Your Place in This Life and the Health of Your Soul
Like the pieces of a mosaic come together to form a whole picture, so the human race and the other things on earth blend to form life as we know it. No matter our race, creed, or religion, each of us play an important role in this life. We add some color where it is needed, and we add the variety of thoughts and actions that will keep life interesting.
There will certainly be times when we feel as if we do not blend in. Those are the times when it seems the world is going on about its business and leaving us behind. There are also those times when we feel as if we are caught up in the fast lane of life. We feel as if it is about to chew us up and spit us out if we do not find a way to escape to the slow lane or even to the isolation room for a while. It’s all a part of life, and the major challenge for each of us is learning to deal with the situation we are in at various points, and finding a way to make it through that period.
These can be the most challenging periods of life, and many have fallen victim to the pressure because they feel as if they just can’t win. We suggest that when you get to either of those points, that you take the time of your struggle to look within and without. You do not have to stop your daily activities to do this. As you go about your daily routine, use the eyes of your soul to look within, and try to determine what you really want at that point, and if it is the best choice. Look without – focus a bit on the people around you as you travel, that includes your neighborhood, your friends, your family, celebrities, the homeless, even your enemy. Take the focus off your own struggles for a while.
- What are those people going through?
- What are they hiding behind the smiles and the lavish spending?
- Do the tears and hurt that is evident on some of the faces you observe really tell it all?
- Can you see anyone who may be going through their struggles, but somehow is holding a genuine smile through it all?
- Can you see anyone who seems to be at the breaking point?
- How about someone who cause you to wonder where they find the strength and courage to pull through and carry on?
Remember that each individual you observe is also one of the small pieces that make up life’s mosaic. Pause for a while and breathe deeply. Relax, and start looking at your struggles from different perspectives.
Be true to yourself – highlight your own strength and weakness, and reflect on how each may be helping or hurting you as you go through your struggles. Yes – Sometimes our own strengths can play a big role in intensifying our struggles. Sometimes our weaknesses become our strengths and vice versa. There are times when our enemies can become our secret best friend, and those we look up to, those who support us the most can become the ones who unintentionally/unknowingly add to our struggles even as they extend a helping hand.
People do not necessarily have to extend a helping hand to pull us through. If we pause to assess each other, we can pull on the strengths and weaknesses that abound in this mosaic we call life.
The fact is that there are people in this mosaic who have no support system, and have had to fend for themselves for most of their lives. The saving grace for so many of us is our sheer will to survive, and for this we must never lose sight of the fact that we are one of the small pieces in this life whose actions will impact another human being in one way or another.
